A Celebration of Life (Location: Calgary)

There will be a Wake on Sunday April 6, 2008 in commemoration of the life and spirit of Ivo Minkov.

He was loved by those who knew him, and we would like to have an informal get-together to share stories and pictures of our friend.

We are collecting memories, stories, pictures, etc. to share with the people who gather. We would also like to present letters to his family in Bulgaria in the hopes of giving them a glimpse into his life here in Canada.

Where: Apt 416 - 535, 8th Ave SE (Buzzer 069)
When: April 6, 2008 (1pm - 5pm)
Attire: Casual wear (representative of Ivo)
Contact: Janice (607-3537)

For further details, please see comments

A memorial book has been put together from the stories/letters/anecdotes collected on April 6th, 2008. If you would like to view a copy, please contact Janice at janiceyennguyen@gmail.com.

I had already put up some photos of Ivo I took on a climb last summer with the Alpine Club. We only met for that one week, but he was one of those people who make an impression on you no matter how long you know them. I was hoping I’d see him in the mountains again, and more opportunities to enjoy his company.

The photos are at http://picasaweb.google.com/rob.gendreau/IvoMinkov

Я себе уже все доказал -
Лучше гор могут быть только горы,
На которых никто не бывал. "

Иди и покори планините Там, Иво, и за нас. Мир на душата ти!

In lieu of flowers for the Wake, we're asking people to donate to Ivo's Memorial Fund to help cover the costs of sending him home to Bulgaria.

There will NOT be an official service, nor will there be any speakers. There will be a board for people to post letters, stories, anecdotes, to share with everyone. These will be mounted to poster boards and sent to his family at the end of the event.

I am very deeply saddened by these tragic news. Ivo and I ice-climbed once last winter, yet I remember him well, as a very outgoing companion and a reliable climbing partner. All my heart is with Ivo's family and friends.

We shared the same office for a week or so right when he started his posdoc fellowship at the UofC; enough time to regard him as a great guy...

If you left any containers at my place or any other items and you would like them back, please contact me. I seem to have inherited a couple items and I do not know who they belong to.

Thanks,

Janice

A digital version of the memory book that was signed at the memorial on Sunday is completed. The original will go to his family in Bulgaria. I have a digital version. Please let me know if you would like a copy. There will be some time delay as I leave for Bulgaria next week and will be gone for about a week.
